Cape Town, South Africa — 16 January 2025 — Pullman Cape Town proudly announces that it has been awarded the esteemed Green Key certification for sustainability, which is a testament to the hotel’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Willie Williams, Area Director of Sales & Marketing:
This achievement demonstrates the hard work and dedication of the entire hotel team, including its Sustainability Committee, which consists of representatives from every department within the hotel. This Committee, supported by Kasada, has been instrumental in implementing and driving sustainable practices that align with the rigorous standards set by the Green Key certification, which is recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
Lopang Rapodile, ESG Manager at Kasada, emphasised the importance of continuous improvement:
We’re hugely proud of Pullman Cape Town for successfully being awarded the Green Key Certification, which is well deserved for the whole team’s focus on delivering sustainability excellence. We remain committed to strengthening the hotel’s sustainability initiatives year after year, ensuring that we continue to serve as an anchor of sustainability for the people and communities we support.
Pullman Cape Town and its owner, Kasada, are deeply dedicated to sustainable tourism and will continue to deliver on their commitments. By achieving Green Key certification, Pullman Cape Town not only sets a benchmark for sustainability among South African hospitality establishments but also demonstrates its dedication to preserving the environment for future generations. The hotel invites guests to join their journey towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
The Green Key evaluation process covers four pillars of sustainability: sustainable management, environmental impacts, cultural impacts, and socio-economic impacts. These are confirmed through an independent third-party audit of hotel practices.
Green Key rigorously evaluates and audits establishments based on the Foundation for Environmental Education’s (FEE) criteria for environmental responsibility and sustainable operations. These standards align with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, covering areas such as energy efficiency, water management, waste reduction, and sustainability education. Green Key, in its Final Summary and Decision, stated: “The hotel has done exceptionally well with demonstrating compliance with Green Key Year 1 Imperative Criteria.” The summary highlighted several commendable practices, including “the implementation of waste management practices, staff training, energy-efficient lighting, automatic shutdown, water-efficient flow rates, and the use of eco-label cleaning products, which align with Green Key standards.”
Water and Energy Reduction: The hotel has installed low-flow showerheads and dual-flush toilets, alongside a daily leak-checking protocol. Rooms are equipped with a Guest Room Management System that automatically turns off electricity after 10 minutes of vacancy. These measures have significantly reduced water and energy consumption, showcasing Pullman Cape Town’s proactive conservation efforts.
Sustainable Education, Training, and Practices: Promoting sustainability is a cornerstone of hotel operations. Guests are encouraged to reduce laundry loads to conserve water and energy. Comprehensive sustainability training ensures staff are well-versed in eco-friendly practices, including conservation techniques, waste reduction, and local sourcing. Employees also educate and encourage guests to adopt these practices during their stay, fostering a collaborative sustainability culture.
Plastic Reduction and Waste Management: Pullman Cape Town is committed to reducing single-use plastics throughout the property. A full-time worker from the hotel’s recycling partner, WastePlan, meticulously separates all waste to maximise reuse. The hotel regularly receives rebates from WastePlan, highlighting the measurable impact of its waste management programme.
The Green Key certification is a globally recognised symbol of excellence in environmental responsibility and sustainable operations within the tourism industry. Its high standards are maintained through rigorous documentation and frequent audits, ensuring certified establishments continuously improve their environmental performance.
In South Africa, Green Key operates under the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) on behalf of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

Cape Town, 28 February 2025 – At Pullman Cape Town City Centre, Table Mountain views and world-class hospitality now come with an added layer of assurance – certification as one of the safest hotels in the world. The hotel has achieved Safehotels Premium Certification, placing it among the world’s most secure and well-prepared properties, where exceptional safety protocols meet uncompromising attention to guest wellbeing.
Safehotels conducts independent audits to certify hotels that meet the highest security standards, work with leading international hotel chains and are recognised by corporate travellers and hotel buyers worldwide. Through partnerships with International SOS, a global leader in Health & Security Risk Management, and endorsements from organisations such as the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), the certification is widely trusted as a benchmark for safety and preparedness.
Safehotels operates in 71 countries across 203 cities and is trusted by some of the world’s biggest hotel brands. Their Global Hotel Security Standard evaluates over 230 on-site criteria – including water quality testing, food hygiene protocols, fire prevention systems, emergency response plans, and staff training – to ensure internationally recognised safety standards.
“What sets Safehotels certification apart is its holistic approach. From the moment guests step into Pullman Cape Town, they’re wrapped in an invisible blanket of care that extends far beyond the usual hospitality touchpoints. While they might not see the measures that make their stay safer, they’ll feel the difference – whether they’re here for an adventure-packed holiday, a cruise stopover, or a business trip that needs to run like clockwork,” says Jaco Bekker, Security Manager at Pullman Cape Town City Centre.
“Achieving Safehotels Premium Certification demonstrates our commitment to going the extra mile regarding guest safety and wellbeing,” adds Bekker. “For corporate clients needing to demonstrate they are fulfilling duty-of-care obligations when sending employees abroad, as well as families simply seeking a relaxing holiday, this Safehotels certification provides a globally recognised standard of assurance regarding guest wellbeing.”
Safehotels certification aligns with Accor’s commitment to redefining hospitality across Africa. With ten more Accor properties set to achieve certification by 2025, Pullman Cape Town is helping set new global standards for guest wellbeing.
“As the first Pullman brand in South Africa by the Accor Group, we achieved Premium status within a year of opening. But Safehotels is about more than just compliance – it’s about our passion for hospitality and ensuring that every guest feels secure and comfortable from the moment they arrive,” explains Willie Williams, Area Director of Sales & Marketing at Accor – Pullman Cape Town.
“Our guests are here to enjoy Cape Town at its best. They should be able to focus on making memories rather than worrying about safety or health concerns. This certification reflects our dedication to providing peace of mind so guests can fully enjoy everything this incredible city offers,” he adds.
“When a guest stays with us, they can rest assured that everything – from water quality and hotel dining to the rooftop pool and food hygiene in our four restaurants and bars – meets the highest international standards of fire, life, and safety,” concludes Williams.

Cape Town, 3 March 2025 – Opening this March at Pullman Cape Town, Konnichiwa brings a laid-back yet flavourful take on sushi to the heart of the city. Ideally located at street level, it’s a relaxed spot to slip into between exploring Cape Town’s galleries, markets, and historic streets—whether it’s a quick meal before an afternoon of sightseeing, a long lunch soaking up the city’s energy, or an easy dinner before heading upstairs to Ghibli Bar for sundowners. Fresh, laid-back, and welcoming to all, Konnichiwa keeps things relaxed with a no-reservations policy.
In Japanese culture, Konnichiwa isn’t just “hello” – it’s about bringing people together over food and shared moments. That same spirit defines everything at Pullman’s newest culinary concept, from beautifully prepared sushi plates to its relaxed setting that encourages spontaneous get-togethers.
Located just off Bree Street – one of Cape Town’s most buzzing culinary hubs – Konnichiwa boasts fantastic al fresco seating where you can soak up the city energy while enjoying fresh, made-to-order sushi right before your eyes.
While Konnichiwa brings an exciting new dining concept to Pullman Cape Town, our signature hotel offering of quality coffee, fresh pastries, light meals and wines remains unchanged. This welcoming corner continues to serve both hotel guests and Capetonians throughout the day.
At Konnichiwa’s helm is acclaimed Shokunin (chef) Ernest Tsosane – a chef whose career spans some of South Africa’s most celebrated Asian restaurants, including Nikkei Japanese Peruvian (Cape Town), as well as Johannesburg favourites Koi and Tang. His culinary pedigree also includes time at Nobu Cape Town and Genki Stellenbosch.
“We are incredibly excited to introduce this concept,” says Chef Ernest. “Our menu blends classic favourites such as sashimi and nigiri with Rainbow Rolls and Wagyu Aburi – all prepared to order daily using only the finest sustainably sourced ingredients. Guests can watch us at work from our sushi counter, which is visible from the street.”
Konnichiwa’s menu offers a refined selection of Japanese-inspired dishes, complemented by a full beverage offering. Delicate sashimi features salmon, tuna, prawn, and buttery langoustine, paired with expertly crafted nigiri like wagyu aburi. California rolls range from beloved classics to the signature Rainbow Roll, while maki and crisp handrolls highlight fresh, vibrant flavors. For something unique, the new-style sashimi introduces citrus-infused seafood options for added depth.

Cape Town, South Africa – 18 June 2025: Pullman Cape Town is proud to announce the appointment of Thuthukile Moloto as its new General Manager. A seasoned leader with global credentials and local roots, she returns home following nearly two years in Saudi Arabia, where she served as Cluster Director of Quality at Marriott International’s Sindalah, part of the NEOM mega-project in Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk Province.
Her return marks a powerful “homecoming” for a rising hospitality talent, and signals Pullman Cape Town’s continued investment in inclusive leadership and world-class guest experiences.
Pullman Cape Town – the first Pullman hotel in South Africa – has quickly established itself as a premium base in the Mother City, setting benchmarks for guest experience, design, and service. Perfectly positioned at the heart of one of Africa’s top-performing tourism cities, it continues to attract both leisure and business travelers seeking a dynamic blend of location, style, and momentum. With Thuthukile Moloto now joining the leadership team, Pullman Cape Town is poised to build on its strong foundation and ongoing success.
In 2024, Cape Town was named Africa’s Leading City Destination (World Travel Awards) for the fourth consecutive year. And in 2025, it topped Time Out’s global list as Best City in the World, based on feedback from more than 18,000 residents worldwide across culture, food, nightlife, affordability, happiness, and overall atmosphere.
Pullman merges business-ready infrastructure with lifestyle-led design, all set against one of the continent’s most iconic backdrops,” said Willie Williams, Area Director Sales & Marketing: Pullman Cape Town. “Thuthukile joins us not only as an exceptional operator but also as an inspiring voice within a broader shift toward representative leadership across our industry.
Thuthukile brings more than 15 years of cross-functional hospitality experience across Africa and the Middle East, including senior roles launching or rebranding properties under major international brands such as Marriott International and Protea Hotels. She has managed diverse teams and overseen operations at flagship city hotels, lifestyle destinations, and large-scale resort projects, demonstrating expertise in both operational excellence and guest engagement.
Her most recent position saw her leading quality operations within NEOM – the world’s most ambitious tourism development zone – where she was responsible for upholding rigorous international standards while adapting to new markets. This breadth of experience has shaped her belief that service excellence must be deeply human-centered, intertwining innovation with genuine care.
My time working abroad changed my understanding of what true hospitality means,” said Moloto. “If we take that level of detail-driven care and pair it with South Africa’s trademark warmth, especially here in Cape Town, we’ll be unstoppable.
As General Manager, Thuthukile is committed to positioning Pullman Cape Town as the definitive destination for both leisure and business travelers. Her vision centers on creating memorable guest experiences that incorporate international best practices with authentic local touches, deepening sustainable operations, and building an empowered team culture through mentorship and continuous development. She is most excited about introducing guests from around the world to the essence of South Africa’s Mother City, and about curating experiences at Pullman that reflect both the city’s energy and its distinctive sense of welcome.
Thuthukile’s arrival also coincides with Accor’s expanding She Leads initiative, a global movement dedicated to unlocking female potential through mentorship-driven programming focused on empowerment, equity, and collective progress.
As She Leads gains traction across regions – with recent events held at Pullman in Nairobi and Jeddah – Thuthukile’s appointment underscores Accor’s long-standing commitment to building inclusive pipelines into executive leadership roles.
As a woman leading a premium property like this one,” Thuthukile shared, “I hope my journey inspires other young professionals to see what’s possible when they’re supported by strong mentors, meaningful opportunities, and courageous ambition.
