Best Wineries & Tasting Rooms to Explore from Pullman Cape Town

There are few places in the world where you can be standing in a world-class city one moment and, less than an hour later, find yourself surrounded by vineyards with a glass of exceptional wine in hand. For guests staying at Pullman Cape Town, celebrated wine routes are within easy striking distance, each offering a distinctly different experience. All that’s left to do is choose your route.
The Constantia Wine Route: The City’s Vineyard Backyard
Tucked into a lush, forested valley on the southern slopes of Table Mountain, the Constantia Wine Route is one of the most accessible wine experiences in the world. Just 25 minutes from Cape Town’s city centre, the valley is steeped in history. Wine has been produced here since 1685, making it South Africa’s oldest wine-producing region, and that sense of heritage is felt at every estate. Arrive late morning, linger over a tasting, settle in for a long lunch, and be back in the city by late afternoon.
The Stellenbosch Wine Route: The Full Winelands Experience
Roughly 45 minutes east of Cape Town, Stellenbosch is South Africa’s most celebrated wine town. The drive sets the tone immediately – the roads wind through open farmland and beneath the shadow of the Hottentots Holland mountains before the valley opens up into one of the most beautiful wine landscapes on earth. With more than 150 wine estates to choose from, Stellenbosch rewards a full day’s exploration. Arrive early, plan two or three estate stops, and leave plenty of time for a long, unhurried lunch in the valley.
The Cape Peninsula Route: Wine at the Edge of the World
The road to the Cape Peninsula wine route is one of the most spectacular drives in the world – over Chapman’s Peak with the Atlantic crashing below, and into the broad, sun-drenched valley of Noordhoek on the other side. Pair it with a stop at Boulders Beach to see the famous penguin colony, and you have one of the great Cape Town days out.
Silvermist Organic Wine Estate
Constantia Nek | 20 km from Pullman Cape Town
Perched on the uppermost slopes of Constantia Nek within the Table Mountain National Park, Silvermist is the only certified organic wine estate on the Constantia Wine Route. The Louw family farm without pesticides or chemical fertilisers, with indigenous fynbos flourishing alongside the vines and mountain wilderness pressing in on all sides.
The experience here goes well beyond a standard tasting. Join winemaker Gregory for an immersive organic wine tasting with majestic views, book a table at Kodo for Japanese-inspired cuisine paired with estate wines, or settle in for a long lunch at La Colombe – ranked among the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. It is, without question, the most diverse estate on the route.
Jordan Wine Estate
Stellenbosch | 45 km from Pullman Cape Town
Look in any direction from Jordan’s upper vineyards and you’ll see why this estate turns heads – sweeping views to Table Mountain on one side, False Bay glittering on the other, and some of the Cape’s finest Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon growing in between.
The experiences here are fun. Taste four flagship wines in Riedel glassware on the terrace, picnic on the lawns beside the willow-fringed dam, or jump in an open Land Rover for the 360° Vineyard Safari – vines, views, bay panoramas and a finale in the underground cellar. Lunch at The Cellar Door is relaxed and delicious; dinner at The Jordan Restaurant is worth booking well in advance. This is a full day out, not just a tasting stop.
Uva Mira Mountain Vineyards
Helderberg, Stellenbosch | 45 km from Pullman Cape Town
High on the Helderberg Mountain at elevations between 420 and 620 metres, Uva Mira is one of the most dramatically positioned estates in the Cape Winelands. Cool False Bay breezes slow the ripening season by two full weeks compared to the valley below – and that patience shows in wines of exceptional elegance, freshness and longevity.
The tasting room terrace looks out across False Bay, Table Bay and Table Mountain simultaneously – on a clear day, the entire Cape Peninsula is yours. Try the Icon Tasting alongside a cheese board, and don’t leave without the Cabernet Franc.
Neil Ellis Wines
Helshoogte Pass, Stellenbosch | 55 km from Pullman Cape Town
Situated on the scenic Helshoogte Pass that winds between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, Neil Ellis Wines is one of South Africa’s most pioneering producers. When Neil Ellis began sourcing grapes from multiple distinct vineyard sites across different regions in 1984, the approach was quietly radical – today it is considered a hallmark of serious Cape winemaking, with fruit drawn from Stellenbosch, Elgin, Groenekloof and Piekenierskloof, each site chosen because it is where a specific variety truly excels.
The tasting room is among the most inviting on the Stellenbosch route, with warm lounge-style interiors and a spacious deck with sweeping mountain views.
Alto Wine Estate
Helderberg, Stellenbosch | 48 km from Pullman Cape Town
Stretched along the steep northern slopes of the Helderberg in the heart of Stellenbosch’s Golden Triangle, Alto has been making red wine exclusively for over a century – the first private cellar in South Africa to do so. Just five winemakers in that time, two of them father and son. The continuity shows in every glass.
The must-do here is the Wine and Biltong Pairing – a proudly South African experience where each wine in the range is matched to a specific cut of biltong, each pairing designed to bring out the best in both. It sounds simple. It’s anything but. This is heritage winemaking with a twist, and one of the most enjoyable tastings on the Stellenbosch route.
Cape Point Vineyards
Noordhoek, Cape Peninsula | 35 km from Pullman Cape Town
Established in 1998, it is the only wine estate in South Africa offering 360-degree views of mountains, vineyards, fynbos and ocean simultaneously, and its cool maritime terroir has earned three International Trophy Awards for Best Wine in the World at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
The tasting experience centres on the estate’s exceptional Sauvignon Blancs, guided through four expressions from coastal freshness to the mineral intensity of the upper vineyard blocks. After your tasting, settle in for lunch at the restaurant or pre-order a gourmet picnic basket, claim a spot on the lawns with Noordhoek Beach shimmering in the distance, and let the afternoon take care of itself.
